ABOUT GAS RUSH STORIES
“Gas Rush Stories” is a series of short documentaries about natural gas drilling in Pennsylvania. Whether we live near a drilling site or downstream, whether we receive royalties or paychecks from a gas company, we are all impacted by this gas drilling in ways good and bad. Shale gas drilling has far reaching impacts both locally and globally.
Gas Rush Stories examines shale gas extraction from different perspectives. Only by exploring this complex issue from the viewpoints of all of the parties involved can we begin to see the bigger picture.
Thanks to a grant from The Heinz Endowments’ Environment Program ten new Gas Rush Stories will be produced by the end of 2012.
The Heinz Endowments supports efforts to make southwestern Pennsylvania a premier place to live and work, a center for learning and educational excellence, and a region that embraces diversity and inclusion.
Gas Rush Stories is produced by Kirsi Jansa, an independent filmmaker and a broadcast journalist. She films the stories herself together with Tanya Stadelmann, an independent filmmaker and media artist, www.tanyastadelmann.com. Tanya will also edit the new Gas Rush Stories.
Gas Rush Story series began in 2011 by exploring the issue of shale gas drilling from the perspective of people critical towards drilling.
In the first three Gas Rush Stories two farmers, a public health advocate and citizens of Allegheny county express their concerns related to shale gas drilling. The fourth Gas Rush Story is about money and politics. The fifth chapter deals with the air emissions coming from the gas industry and tells a story of a neighbor who lives next to a compressor station. Gas Rush Story part six shows how gas drilling is changing the landscape in south-western Pennsylvania. A private pilot takes Gas Rush Stories for a flight over Butler county and Washington county.
New Gas Rush Stories will broaden the view on shale gas drilling. People who have benefited from the shale gas industry will also be able to tell their side of the story. One of the stories will be filmed in Europe.
Gas Rush Stories Unedited contains videos that the team has filmed in various events related to shale gas drilling.
